As a Southern California native, the mountains and beaches surrounding my hometown of Santa Barbara, California have inspired my love for nature and photography. That love has grown and multiplied throughout my life and and enabled me to travel the world.
I discovered my love for taking pictures as a young child, watching the sunrise over the Grand Canyon, armed with a hand-me-down camera and a roll of 35mm film. I found that there is something humbling about being surrounded by nature and witnessing such immense beauty. It can make you feel small and out of control, in the best sense. That emotion has always driven my passion for landscape photography. Watching the light change and colour the mountains, clouds or lakes before me, moves me in ways that are difficult to articulate but definitely make the late nights, early mornings, and hours spent in the heat, rain, and elements worth it.
When chasing down that indescribable feeling, I need gear that I know can keep up with me. While traveling through the Canadian Rockies with the OM-D E-M5 Mark III, I found its lightweight and durability make it an ideal camera for a person who is constantly looking for the next adventure. When hiking or traveling, space in my camera bag is at a premium and every ounce counts. The E-M5 Mark III weighs very little but is still capable of producing images that are detailed and sharp. I was particularly impressed with the Tripod Hi-Res Shot mode, which creates a 50MP file. The in-camera 5-axis image stabilisation enabled me to break free from my tripod, which makes adventuring even easier.
Some of the most dramatic light comes with dramatic weather, and having a camera that can deal with rain, cold or heat is important to me. During my time in the Canadian Rockies, I had many stormy days. While shooting the incredible Sunwapta Falls, I was caught in a downpour, but the excellent weather sealing on the E-M5 Mark III enabled me to continue focusing on what was happening in front my lens and not worrying about damaging my camera gear. Whether photographing mighty water falls, pristine lakes, or hiking up mountains, I found the E-M5 Mark III to be a camera that was able to handle it all.
