Fernando Marmolejo is an action sports photographer from Seville in southern Spain. He works with one of the market leaders in extreme sports, which takes him round the world photographing sports like Rallycross, BMX, skating, snowboarding and Motocross, among others.
From the very first moment I used the OM-D E-M1X, I felt like I was working with a tool of the future. The new intelligent subject detection AF makes the job even easier as it can distinguish the wheels of a motorbike from the helmet in milliseconds, meaning the perfect focus for your photograph.
In the Sahara, we were lucky enough to put the camera to the test in extreme situations, like when I was behind Dani Sola’s buggy and torrents of mud splashed up as he was crossing a river, or the same day, when we got caught in a sandstorm. The seal on the E-M1X is on another level; we were even able to use the river water to clean the camera. When you’re working, it gives you a sense of security that is absolutely priceless.
Having the controls with their two new multi selectors means that when you’re navigating the menus, there’s no difference whether you’re holding the camera vertically or horizontally; you can still use the same buttons whichever way you hold it. I now take more photos in portrait than before, and, even though it now has a grip, it’s still an impressive size and weight. Because of that, I can keep running while carrying the camera and a M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO without worrying about anything.
This camera has a lot of gadgets that make life easier and let you enjoy what you love the most: taking photographs.
