I’ve been extremely fortunate to be granted the opportunity to test the newest member of the Olympus PRO lens range - the M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.2 PRO. The M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.2 PRO is a stunning lens and is an ideal focal length for my varying types of photography.

When shooting at the maximum aperture of f/1.2, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.2 PRO coupled with an OM-D E-M1 Mark II is impeccably sharp straight out of camera unlike other 35mm DSLRs when shooting at f/1.2 where stopping down to gain optical clarity is required.

My images are highly influenced by looks and styles classically developed from the cinema world and hence, my photography tends to resemble a cinematic look. These new lenses afford me the freedom to isolate my subjects, without distraction due to Olympus’ new optical formula that allows for backgrounds to melt away without creating distraction thanks to the feathered bokeh.

In my images of the model, the composition in addition to the ultra bright f/1.2 aperture is key to making the model pop. Obviously, in regards to composition, constructing an image in your own unique way helps to put your mark on it - whether its using negative space or light to isolate the subject, the positioning of a subject within a frame is key, but a lens’ ability to depict your story is also paramount.

Especially when shooting around the water’s edge, watching and waiting for the best light is especially imperative. If given the privilege of time, I try to use the light to my creative advantage. Whether it’s waiting for a cloud to pass or that perfect light beam to hit the lens. It helps evoke unique emotions. I’m always watching and thinking about light and the new 45mm with its f/1.2 brightness allows me to concentrate more on my timing knowing that the new lens’ reliability will get me the shot.
