My name is Lauren Bath and I am a full-time travel photographer and destination marketer, working all over the world. I have a massive passion for photography and also for travel, so my work suits me well.
People often ask me how I’m able to be present in a moment when I have my camera in my hand and a job to do? My answer is always the same, taking pictures makes me MORE present and more aware. I’ve never been more connected to nature and what’s going on around me than I have since I first picked up a camera. I notice small nuances in the light changing, catch movement out of the corner of my eye and pick up on ordinary moments becoming extraordinary.
What made me fall in love with Olympus in the first place was the company ethos and the people behind the brand. After that it was how lightweight the system is. Finally, I started to really understand and appreciate how innovative Olympus is as a camera manufacturer. Behind every new feature that they pack in is an intrinsic understanding of photographers and their needs.
For example, the new E-M1X has really upped the ante for built-in stabilisation. They are literally making tripods obsolete. I can reach remote places and do difficult hikes with just my camera, knowing I can achieve the shots that I want to. The new built in ND filters are also moving towards making filters obsolete, one less thing to carry in the camera bag. But overall, I love how the cameras are constantly being re-thought, re-defined and improved.
Complete weather sealing means that I can be out in the field and weather a passing rain storm without a break in shooting. The camera is a machine, a piece of equipment that you use to fulfil your goal of taking a photo. Knowing it inside and out will dramatically increase your chances of success. Being a photographer makes me so much more aware of nature and the world around me. My senses are more in tune and I’m more present.
I’ve always believed that the less you have to think about your shots, the better your photography is, and Olympus is giving us equipment to make this a reality.
