Matt Suess has been a full-time professional photographer since 1990, spending the first 17 years of his career as a photojournalist based in New England, where he was named New England Press Association Photographer of the Year in 2003. A digital photography pioneer, he began teaching digital workflow to photojournalists in the late 1990s and played a key role in bringing digital cameras to two regional newspapers.
In 2006 Matt headed west and shifted his focus to fine art landscape, nature, wildlife, travel, and night sky photography. Since then he has built a reputation as both a working photographer and an educator, leading workshops worldwide across some of the most iconic locations on the planet. He also teaches photography online and sells fine art prints.
His work and story have caught the attention of the wider photography world — in 2023 PetaPixel produced a short documentary film about Matt titled Off the Beaten Path with Matt Suess, following him into the backcountry of Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountains.
Matt has been an OM SYSTEM Ambassador since 2020 and is also sponsored by several leading photography companies. He is based in Bozeman, Montana.
